Intro.:

Triphosgene is white crystal, decomposed in hot water and alkali hydroxide, relative density is about 2, boiling point 205-206 ℃ (decomposed), melting point 78-79 ℃. Soluble in ethanol, benzene and ether. Insoluble in water, can dissolve in ether, THF, benzene, cyclohexane, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, 1,2 - dichloroethane and other organic solvents. Part of solid triphosgene can be broken down into three molecules of gas phosgene. In industry, it is only generally handled as low toxic substances. In medicine, pesticides, organic chemical and polymer synthesis, it can replace phosgene or biphosgene in reactions. Its initial decomposition temperature is 130 ℃, it begins to decompose in humid atmosphere at 90 ℃. It should be stored in dry, cool place, away from the fire source, and separated with the organic amine.

Uses:

Triphosgene is a good substitute of phosgene, is widely used in preparation of formyl chloride compounds in the pharmaceutical industry, such as intermediates of azlocillin, mezlocillin, and so on
