n-Hexane
Property:
Colorless, volatile liquid with a slightly disagreeable odor. Insoluble
in water, soluble in ethanol, acetone, ethyl ether.
Use:
as solvent in olefin polymerization; as extractant for vegetable
oil; in formulating contact adhesives, coating materials, paints
and inks.

Caution
n-hexne is generally low toxic. It is moderately irritating to
skin and mucosa. Excessive inhalation of vapors may result in dizziness,
headache, excitation, central nervous system depression. The vapors
are highly flammable and may form explosive mixture with air. n-Hexane
shall be kept well closed in iron, copper or aluminum containers
under cool, dry and ventilated conditions. Keep away from heat,
sparks and flame. Avoid shock, rain and direct sunlight. |
