DL-Methionine contains not
less than 99.0 per cent and not more than the equivalent of
101.0 per cent of (RS)-2- amin-4-(methlthio)
butyric acid, calculated with reference to the dried substance.

CHARACTERS

Almost white, crystalline
powder or small flakes, sparingly soluble in water, very
slightly soluble in alcohol, practically insoluble in ether.
It dissolves in dilute mineral acids and in dilute solutions
of alkali hydroxides.
