Property: red cubic crystal, with iodine odor, M.P.: 171°C, Specific Gravity: 4.32(20°C), almost insoluble in water, but slowly hydrolyze to produce iodine and iodoform after contacting with water, soluble in benzene, chloroform and can be decomposed by heat alcohol, decompose to iodine and tetraiodo-ethane under the radiation of light and heat.

Uses: used in organic synthesis.
