Properties:
White crystalline powder. Specific gravity: 1.69-1.73. Hardness: 2-2.5. Easily soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol. Its solution is weak alkaline. It will lose all crystalline water and become anhydrous borax if heated to 350-400ºC. It has sterilizing property, and is harmful to people if taken orally.
Use:
Borax is important material in glass, enamel, ceramic, non-ferrous metal and metallurgy industyr. In agriculture, it can be used as microelement fertilizer and disinfectant. In pharmaceutical industry, it is the basic material of boride and borane-based fuel.
