NOMENCLATURE

IUPAC name 4-(methoxymethyl)benzyl (1RS)-cis,trans-2,2-dimethyl-3-(2-methylprop-1-enyl)cyclopropanecarboxylate 

CAS RN [34388-29-9]; [11114-02-6], structure unstated, is assigned to methothrin, indexed as methothryn by Chemical Abstracts 

 

PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY

Composition Tech. is ³90%.  Mol. wt. 302.4  M.f. C19H26O3  Form Pale yellow, clear liquid, with a faint characteristic odour  B.p. 130 °C (0.4-0.5 ?103 Pa)  Stability Stable under normal storage conditions; hydrolysed by alkalis. 

 

COMMERCIALISATION

History Introduced in Japan in 1968; now manufactured in China.  Manufacturers Jiangsu Yangnong

 

APPLICATIONS

Mode of action Non-residual insecticide with rapid knockdown action.  Uses Knockdown insecticide with high vapour action, active against mosquitoes and flies. Often used in combination with piperonyl butoxide.  Formulation types EC.
