Definition: refers
to the door with such as X ray, gamma ray and radiation
function of special glass (in this kind of glass mostly
using methyl methacrylate (MMA) glass), introduction
of lead, barium, samarium and other metal elements
to achieve its anti radiation performance.
Application: mainly used for
occasions where radiation protection and radiation
protection are needed. Such as in radiology, often
used for radiation protection and shielding, or as
a lead room for the observation window.
Radiation protection principle: electromagnetic
wave X rays, gamma rays radiation belongs to the high
energy, the rays in various media, the media can lead
to atomic ionization phenomenon, which is also called
ionizing radiation. The shorter the wavelength of an
electromagnetic wave, the stronger its penetrating
power. Since the wavelength of the ray is the same
magnitude as the size of the atom, the molecular absorption
coefficient can be summed up by the atomic absorption
coefficient of each element of the constituent molecule.
Therefore, the mass absorption coefficient of various
oxides that make up glass can be calculated according
to this principle. The composition of ordinary glass
does not absorb this kind of radiation effectively.
It is necessary to introduce a large number of atoms
with high atomic number (such as lead and bismuth)
into the glass composition to improve its absorption
capacity. In addition, because the glass itself is
absorbed in strong radiation, it is easy to become
dark brown and lose transparency. Therefore, it is
often necessary to have high radiation resistance of
glass itself.
