A
good product to break the dormancy of plant ---- Cyanamide
Brief
Introduction:
Cyanamide
is a kind of the dormancy-breaking agent, which can
inhibit the action of hydrogen peroxidase in plant
and speed up recycling of PPP of plants to stimulate
the generation of some basic substance of plants,
growth of plants and stop the dormancy of plants.
It can cause the following beneficial effects on treated
plants: advanced budbreak, flowering by 2-4 weeks;
more uniform budbreak; increased percentage of budbreak;
shortened flowering period and reduction in the number
of picks. The treated fruits turn to be bigger, more
uniform and sweeter. Also the harvest of fruits can
be advanced by 2-3 weeks and the yield can be increased. |
The results of application:
Darong is the first manufacturer of
Cyanamide in China. During the period of 2000-2002,
it has made many experiments of the dormancy breaking
on grapes, cherry and kiwifruits in Ningxia, Shandong,
Dalian and Shanxi etc. In Ningxia, the grapes were
treated by cyanamide with three concentrations of
1.5%, 2.5% and 3.5%. The cyanamide was sprayed with
motorized knapsack sprayer. The results showed: the
budbreak could be advanced by 17-19 days, fruit growth
by 16-18 days and fruit maturity by 14-16 days. The
percentage of budbreak could be increased by 5.7%,
13.3% and 10.3% respectively and meanwhile the yield
increase was 10.5%, 17.4% and 15.1%. The net income
per mu could be up by RMB236-341. In city of Talian
of Shandong, the grapes were treated with cyanamide
with three concentrations of 1.0%, 3.0% and 5.0%.
The results showed: advanced flowering periods by
more than 8 days, increased weight of fruits by 6.8-7.1
grams, the yield increase by14.3%. Comparison in color,
hardness and content of solid substance proved that
breaking dormancy by applying cyanamide solution on
grapes could not degrade the quality of fruits. |

Timing of application:
The time of application depends mainly
on the agroclimatic conditions, the crop and the objective
of use.
1) In order to increase
the percentage of budbreak, treating 2 to 3 weeks
prior to the time of natural budbreak onto the dormant
canes. (The time of budbreak varies year to year)
2) For advanced budbreak, in subtropical conditions,
it is usually applied 45 to 30 days prior to the time
of natural budbreak. Under tropical conditions it
is usually applied immediately after pruning.
3) Crops in the shelter, such as cherry, grapes, can
be treated with cyanamide 2-6 weeks prior to the time
of natural bud break. |
Precautions:
1) Wear protective clothing
and eye shield when applying cyanamide.
2) Drink wine or eating food with alcohol are forbidden
24 hours before and after the operation.
3) Clean eyes and mouth with clean water, wash face
and hands with soap after operation.
4) Cyanamide is a kind of weedicide and defoliating
agent. Be careful not to spray on other plants nearby.
5) Avoid late frost when applying cyanamide.
6) Harmful to bees, don't spray on the plants.
7) Avoid direct sunlight, and temperature for storage
is under 20. Don't store it together with acid and
alkali. Keep it away from food or the places that
the children can reach. |
