Dimethyl Carbonate as a kind of Organic Synthesis Intermediate
Body with micro toxicity. Water white, transparent and volatile
liquid. named "Green basic chemical material". Its
use very extensive, reactive chemical property. Molecule including
three kinds of functional body for methyl, carbonyl, carbomethoxy,
so as to proceed a series of reaction with kinds of Alcohol,
Phenol, Amine, Ester, Amino-Alcohol. DMC as Methylating agent,
carbonylation agent and carbomethoxy agent could take the
place of COCl2, (CH3)2SO4,
CH3Cl or ClCOOCH3
with drastic toxicity to produce Methyphenate, phenolicether,
carbonate, isocyanate, ester carbonate, conveniently to compose
advanced resin, pesticide-intermediate body, food additive,
anti-oxidant, surface active agent, and other fine chemical
products. As a kind of efficient solvent with good property,
it could take the place of Armoatic Hydrocarbon solvent: Another
use, as gasoline additive, increase octane value and oxygen
content of gasoline to manufacture gasoline without lead.
So DMC is called "New Foundation Stone" of organic
synthesis.

1,2-propanediol could react with Biatomicaid, Aqua fortis,
chlorhydric acid, sulfuric acid etc. After dehydrating water,
it could be produced oxypropylene or polyethylene glycol.
It could be capatible with water, alcohol, dimethyl ether,
chloroform, Acetone etc. Organic solvent. Dissolved degree
of 1,2 propanediol is small for hydrocarbon, chloro hydrocarbon,
Oil and Fat, but its dissolved capacity is stronger than that
of ethylene glycol. 1,2-propanediol has extensive use, as
solvent of perfume and edible pigment in foodstuff, as the
solvent of controlled medium, presservative, paste, vitamin,
penicillin in parmaceutical industry, also could be as tobacco
lubricated solvent, preservative, solvent for accelerating
the ripening of fruit, preservative, anti-icing fluid, heat-carrier
etc. 1,2-propanediol is used to produce Non-saturated alkyd
resin, plasticizer. Surface active agent etc.
