The Crompton Corp. announced that company had completed the divestiture of its refined products business to Sun Capital Partners,Inc. Included in the sales are facilities in Petrolia,PA; Amsterdam, Koog ann de Zaan and Haalem, the Netherlands.The business employs about 470 people. The refined products business includes petrolatums, microcrystalline waxes, white oils, cable fillers, ink oils and compressor lubricants.
Crompton acquired the refined products business, including the Petrolia refinery, when it acquired the Witco Corp. in 1999. The Petrolia refinery has capacity to produce 5.3 tbd of base oils and 31 million pounds of refined waxes(microcrystalline) and 83 million pounds a year of unrefined waxes(petrolatums). It had been reported by Crompton that the Refined Products Group had sales of $260 million in 2004.
Refined Products is the world's largest dedicated supplier of white oils, petrolatums, microcrystalline waxes, and other refined hydrocarbons. The products are used for personal care items such as creams, lotions, cosmetics and pharmaceutical ointments, as well as for food processing, agricultural dust suppression, polymer processing, telecommunications, wire and cable, and air conditioning and refrigeration lubricants.
Sun Capital Partners has also announced that the business will operate as Sonneborn Refined Products B.V. in Europe and Sonneborn, Inc. elsewhere around the globe. The Sonneborn name dates back to the early 1900s when the Sonneborn family manufactured white oils, petrolatums and microcrystalline waxes in Petrolia, PA. Over the years, the Sonneborn name became synonymous with high quality products and customer service as a part of Witco Corp. |
