Six month results of 12/31/08 for fiscal 08 and 09 show that wax sales in Rand increased by 44.3% in value [15.8% in U.S. dollars] while sales volume decreased by 9.9%. Although the average selling price increased from 49 to 63 cts/1b, the six month operating profit was a large loss due to decreased global wax demand and the sharp rise in crude costs. Sasol’s 2009 capacity{total of 800 Ktpa} remains at 430 Ktpa of paraffin wax and wax emulsions in Germany, 240 Ktpa of F-T based waxes and related products and 30 Ktpa of paraffin wax in South Africa, and 100 Ktpa of paraffin wax in the U.S. The table below shows results for six months F09 and F08, and annual data for fiscal years 06,07 and 08.
