Dover Chemical Corp., has agreed to buy Chlorinated Paraffins Business of Pioneer Companies, Inc.,Houston, TX. Dover Chemical is subsidiary of ICC Industries, INC, and is based on Dover, OH. It supplies chemicals and additives to the lubricants and other industries with a variety of halogenated additives including chlorinated and brominated compounds, metallic stearates and alkylphenols. Among its chlorinated compounds are Chlorinated Paraffins. It is estimated that Chlorinated Paraffins consume about 20-25 million pounds per year of paraffin waxes.
If the deal with Pioneer goes through, Dove will be the sole producer of Chlorinated Paraffins in North America having earlier acquired the Chlorinated businesses of Keil Chemical in 2003 and Occidental Chemical Corp. in 2002. Pioneer Chemical makes Chlorinated Paraffins at a plant in Cornwall, Ont. Canada. At the time of the announcement, Dover and Pioneer indicated that the Cornwall Chlorinated Paraffins plant will be closed and that Dover plans to supply Pioneer customer's from Dover's existing plants in Dover,OH and Hammond, IN. The Dover, OH plant reportedly had capacity to produce 90 million pounds per year of Chlorinated Paraffins while the Hammond, IN plant (formerly a Keil Chemical facility) reportedly had capacity to produce 50 million pounds per year. |
