Imperial Oil's Ont.Refinery suffered an explosion and fire on December 14 in a hydrocracker unit that put the unit out of commission for an undermined period of time. The 18000 barrel per day hydrocracker produces component for lubricant base stocks as well as unfinished petroleum waxes. The refinery has capacity to produce 2800bd of Group I and 3800 bd of Group II lubricant base stocks. In addition, it is, it has capacity to produce 217 million pounds per year of unfinished waxes. A spokesman for the refinery said the hydrocracker was the only unit affected and that the lube trains were not impacted.
A fire on December 14 at Calumet Lubricant's refinery in Shreveport , LA has not impact on the plant's lubricant base stocks, including 3000bd of Group I stocks, 6500bd of Group II stocks and 100bd of naphthenics. The fire occurred in a gasoline platformer, one of two at the used at the plant to make gasoline. The fire was due to the rupture of a high pressure product line.
