Sasol’s 2006 annual report includes segmented global results for Sasol Wax. In 2006, Sasol Wax had turnover of R4,584 million(U.S.$642 million),up 12 percent compared to R4,075 million(U.S.$571 million) in 2005. Contribution to group operating profit rose from R208 million(U.S.$29 million) in 2005 to R276 million(U.S.$39 million) in 2006, an increase of 33 percent. Reported wax volumes declined from 1,807 million pounds in 2005 to 1,760 million in 2006. The Volume decline was due to the deconsolidation of Paramelt.
The company also reported that it believes a fundamental shift is occurring in the global wax market as customers demand more F-T waxes rather than petroleum derived paraffin waxes. It expects that demand for F-T waxes may well grow at unprecedented rates over the next few years. The company reports that it is reviewing the viability of expanding F-T wax capacity within the next few years. The company also reported that the wax blending operation at Pass Christian, MS, which was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005,will be disposed of in the coming year. The relevant marketing and customer support operations will be integrated into the established wax operations at another U.S. joint venture at Luxco Wax in Hayward, CA
