Fabryka Parafin Naftowax is the largest producer of paraffin waxes in Poland. The company was formed in 1999 when it was spun off from its owner Grupa Kapitals Refineri Trzebina S.A. which had produced and sold paraffin waxes since 1905. For most of those years, wax production consisted mainly of the deparaffination and deoiling of light and medium vacuum distillates from crude oils and obtained by a refining process using bleaching clay. The production of candles and grave lights was the largest end use for paraffin wax in Poland with 70 percent of candle output exported.

The first new activity of that Naftowax undertook was the production of paraffin wax emulsions for the wood industry. Its emulsion business has enjoyed success and currently sales are more than 20,000 tons annually. During the period from 1999 through 2002, the company made improvements to its operations including new raw material receiving facilities, automation of the refining facility, and installation of fully automated pressure leaf filtration system which replaced less efficient filter presses which required manual operation. This increased the capacity of the facility to produce 35,000 tons annually.

The next phase was the modernization of the slack wax deoiling unit. This was accomplished with the installation of a Sulzer static melt crystallizer. The process employed is the same as the common deoiling technique using sweat chambers, although with the new technology the dioiling of slack wax is faster, more effective, and more efficient. The next phase of the plant modernization was the installation of a unit for hydrofinishing the wax. The unit has capacity to produce 27,000 tons of hydrofinished waxes annually. This was completed in 2005 and is producing high quality paraffin waxes. The hydrofinished waxes can be used in the manufacture of a wide range of products including in the cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical industries.
