NEW ALWAYS BIOTECHNOLOGY TONGXIANG CO.,LTD. is a high-tech enterprise combining closely knowledge and capital, and is organized and established by the joint venture of the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering (ECUST, P R china) and Guofeng Company of Taiwan. The registered capital of the company is 3,020,000 US dollars, and the total investment is 8,000,000 US dollars. The premise of the enterprise occupies a land of the area 20012m2, and the total building area is 17740m2. Through building green environmental workshops compiled with "GMP" standard and advanced equipment for production and process control, the company focuses upon the core of developing macromolecular Hyaluronic Acid production technologies at advanced international grade. The first stage of the project is to bring a production capacity of producing 1500kg annually.

As a national team for the fundamental research in bioprocess and bioreactor engineering, the State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering (ECUST, P R china) has its advantages and features in biotechnology industrialization and bioproduct development. The company will improve the technologies of Hyaluronic Acid and enrich the product series utilizing the exhaustless drive of high-level talent training and international communication and cooperation relying upon the lab, and meet the market demands for medical treatment, skin care and health care, to do our own dedications to the economical construction and social development of the country, and to improve the life level of the people.

DISCOVERY OF HYALURONIC ACID

In 1934, Karl Meyer isolated a formerly unknown glycosaminoglycan from the vitreous humor of the bovine eye. It differed from any of the other previously discovered glycosaminoglycans in that it did not contain sulfur. With its distinctive structure, its function within the body was unique. It was named hyaluronan, and then scientific study ensued further. At the time of its discovery, the new compound took on two names: hyaluronan when referring to its endogenous synthesis and hyaluronic acid when discussing research conducted outside of the body of human or animal. Today Sodium Hyaluronate is commonly referred to as hyaluronic acid, regardless of the context in which it is spoken.

STRUCTURE OF HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic Acid belongs to mucopolysaccaride and is linear, unbranched, high molecular weight polysaccharides containing a repeating disaccharide unit(D-glucuronic acid and N-acetyl glucosamine). Hyaluronic Acid weighs about from 2×105-7×106Da. The other glycosaminoglycans in the body include chondroitin sulfate, Keratan sulfate, dermatan sulfate, and heparin sulfate.

DISTRIBUTION OF HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic Acid widely consists in the extracelluar spaces of animal tissues. Almost all the kinds of animal tissues contain the different quantity of Hyaluronic Acid. Today Hyaluronic Acid has been found from skin, cockscombs, brain, vitreum, connective tissues, umbilical cord, human serum, articular fluid, gristle, human urine, cock embryo, oocyte, artery and vein, etc.

PRODUCTION OF HYALURONIC ACID

The first method used to produce Hyaluronic Acid was to extract it from some Hyaluronic Acid riched tissues such as cockscombs, human umbilical cord, and animal eyes' vitreous body. In later time, Kendall and other people found that some streptococcus may yield Hyaluronic Acid. Streptococcus is a kind of bacilli which can only be seen by microscope and is invisible for people's eyes. Inspected by the microscope, the streptococcus has a ball-like body, with a normal form of many individuals of streptococcus combined together, so they got their name streptococcus. The membrane mainly consisted of Sodium Hyaluronic Acid circles the main body as a protection layer from hurts.
