Sodium polyacrylate, short for PAANa and its structure formula is [-CH2-CH(COONa)]n-. It is water-soluble resin. Molecular weight can reach more than 1 million, colorless or canary viscous liquid, alkalescence, ionized with corrosion. When Ph value is nearly 4, it is easy to be gel; when PH value is 2.5, it is near the dissolving. It is easy to be soluble in sodium hydroxide solution, but in calcium hydroxide and magnesium hydrate solution, it will have precipitate. Nontoxic. |
|
Properties |
Water-soluble linear chain macromolecular polymer. White powder. Odorless; expansion with water and dissolving in caustic soda solution with extremely well moisture absorption. Slowly dissolving in water and form extremely viscous transparent liquid. |
|
Use |
With the difference of molecular weight, the property and use of polyacrylate sodium are different. It can be used as paper coating dispersant. When the concentration is 65%~70%, it still has well rheology and curing stability. Molecular weight is between 1×103~3×103, it can be used as water quality stability and scale formation control agent in black liquor. Molecular is above 105, it can be used as coating thickening agent and water-retaining agent. Molecular is above 106, it can be used as flocculating agent.

|
Solubility |
Mixing with water, it will turn to viscous liquid from transparent gel. Dissolving in caustic soda solution and has precipitate in calcium hydroxide and magnesium hydrate solution.

Manufacture methods |
Acrylic acid or acrylic ester reacting with sodium hydroxide can generate monomer sodium acrylate.
