1. Description
(1) Product Name: tryptophan, also called as amino indopropionic acid
(2) Molecular Formula: C11H12N2O2
(3) English Name: Tryptophan
(4) Physical and Chemical Properties: |
They are white or offwhite to yellowish crystalline powder, odorless or slight odor. L-trypto phan has slight bitterness, while DL-tryptophan and D-tryptophan have slight sweet taste. They will decompose at the temperature of 289°C, slight soluble in the water and insoluble in alcohol. They can dissolve in the dilute acid or dilute alkali, and colorate if being irradiated for a long time, to produce a small quantity of indole when heated together with water. A large amount of indole will be produced if heated together with sodium hydroxide or cupric sulfate; They are stable if heated together with acid in dark place, however, very easy to decompose if together with other amino acid, saccharide or aldehyde.
2. Uses
Tryptophan is a kind of heterocyclic amino acid, important and necessary for human body, widely used in pharmaceutical and food field, the main uses include:
(1) used in the amino acid transfusion, composite amino acid preparation;
( 2) used in nutrient tonic for pregnant women and special milk powder for infants.
(3) used as drug to treat nicotinic acid deficiency disease (pellagra);
(4) used as sedative drug to regulate mental rhythm and perfect sleep quality;
(5) used as food and feed additive;
(6) used to synthesize 5-hydroxytryptamine(MELATONIN).
