Michael Zhang
President & Chief Executive Officer
Michael Zhang is the founder of Eastbound and chief architect of the organization. Michael founded Eastbound in 2002 after serving 17 years in the Ministry of Chemical Industry of China, the last 10 as head of China’s Ministry of the Chemical Industry in the United States. It was during this time that Michael determined that a successful Chinese company must be able to apply local resourcefulness and hard work against the demanding quality and reliability needs of western pharmaceutical companies. He has accomplished this by enlisting the aid of experienced executives from the west. Michael holds a degree in Physics from Tsinghua University and in Business from China Europe International Business School.
Dr. Young Lo
Research Fellow
Dr. Young Lo manages the R&D department. In addition, Dr. Lo is responsible for training of R&D employees. Born in Hong Kong in 1945, Dr. Lo received his B.Sc. degree in 1968 from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from MIT in 1973. He stayed in the US and worked for pharmaceutical companies A.H. Robins, DuPont Merck, and Boehringer Ingelheim for the subsequent 35 years as process development scientist/manager, produced 42 US patents and 23 reviewed articles. Dr. Lo’s work contributed to several pharmaceuticals currently on the market including Losartan, Nevirapine, Efarvirenz, Botizomib, Methadone, Methylphenidate, etc. He enjoys visiting Chinese historic/cultural sites.
Dr. Leo Lin
Vice President, Quality and Regulatory Affairs
Dr Lin joined Eastbound in July of 2010. After graduating from Guangdong Pharmaceutical University with B.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Leo received from the University of Manitoba in Canada his M.Sc. in Medicinal Chemistry and Ph.D. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. Leo completed post-doctoral studies at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His industrial experience comes from his work at WEX Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Vancouver, Canada and its fully owned R&D and manufacture subsidiary, Nanning Maple Leaf Pharmaceutical (NMLP) in Guangxi, China where he was the Chief Scientific Officer and ultimately General Manager. Leo’s experience includes API manufacturing, process development and cGMP compliance. During Leo’s tenure at NMLP he oversaw the successful implementation of cGMP and subsequent audits by numerous independent auditors from Europe and North America.
Dr. Yuan Li
Vice President, Process Development Operations
Dr. Yuan Li was born in 1974. He studied Chemistry at the University of Sunderland and finished his education with a thesis on synthesis of fluorinated analogues of an early intermediate in the shikimate pathway. Afterwards, he joined Onyx Scientific Ltd. as senior chemist in 2002. In March 2011, he joined Zhejiang Qiming Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd as project director and QC manager.
Chris Vance
Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Business Development
Chris Vance joined Eastbound in 2008. Chris brings a wealth of experience in chemical and pharmaceutical industry based on his thirty five year career with Boehringer Ingelheim and Hoechst. He provides Eastbound with a strong western view of customer requirements and helps develop a strategy that will focus long term efforts on meeting these needs. Chris holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Business.
