Bone Black
Bone Black, also called Ivory Black, Animal Charcoal, color index: Pigment Black 9, 77267, is a special black, initially produced by heating ivory, used for artists' color. Modern process is heating treated animal bones to high temperatures in the absence of air. It contains about 10% carbon, 70-80% calcium phosphate, 8% calcium carbonate, and little calcium sulphate, magnesium phosphate, calcium sulphide, and few water soluble matter. Its density is 2.5g/cm3.
Bone black is a fine pure bluish black, easy to be dispersed, good storage stability, be not seeding after dispersed. Bone black is good light resistance, heat resistance, and chemical resistance. Bone black is also good hydrophile pigment. It can be provide excellent performance in water-based coating and water-based ink.
Bone black usually were used in wood stain, such as Glaze, also can be used in ink and artists' color.
