'Advantage' and 'disadvantage' for composite insulator installing grading ring |

If no grading ring is mounted on the composite insulator, the surface field electric field intensity voltage will be distributed uniformly. The mounting position and structure of grading ring will improve the voltage distribution of composite insulator. If the surface of grading ring, insulator and the metal accessories are at the same height, the grading ring almost has no grading effect. For grading and shielding effect of grading ring, the grading effect is more obvious. However, as the 'insert' height of grading ring increase, the voltage distribution will be improved, but the effective discharge distance of insulator will decrease, thus the lightning surge discharge voltage will reduce. Experiments show that compared with composite insulator, which grading ring is not mounted, the lightning impulsive discharge voltage of composite insulator mounted with grading reduce about 6-11%. Only solution is to increase the effective discharge distance of composite insulator. |
