Granular potassium nitrate

Potassium nitrate is a nitrate of potassium, empirical formula is KNO3 (potassium nitrate is an ionic compound, there is no molecule, so it has no molecular weight but formular weight only). Appearance is colorless or white powder, odorless, specific gravity (water = 1) 2.11. The solubility in water is 13 g/100mL (due to temperature, the solubility is higher when the higher of temperature, the solubility change of potassium nitrate is quite obvious).

It has lower deliquescence than sodium nitrite, has stimuli cooling salt taste . Soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol.

Uses

Potassium nitrate is mainly used in fireworks, gunpowder, matches, fuse, candles, tobacco, color television picture tubes, drugs, chemical reagents, catalysts, ceramic glazes, glass, compound fertilizer, and flowers, vegetables, fruit trees and other crops as leaves surface spraying fertilizer. It can offer soothing effects for sensitive teeth, so there are also a lot of potassium nitrate toothpastes. Used in medicine, potassium nitrate is used for the treatment of kidney stones; we have found have 26 kinds of ingredients in urinary calculus of human except for potassium nitrate; because potassium nitrate is one kind of active matter and is hard to form stones; at the same time, it can combine with calcium and was excreted out of human body. At present, it is the major drug for the treatment of calcium stones; in order to prevent the formation of potassium nitrite in Escherichia coli, it generally works with aluminum potassium sulfate.

Flammability & Dangerous characteristics
Release oxygen in high heat; combustible in case of organic matter, reducing agents, charcoal, sulfur, phosphorus and other flammables; produces toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides in combustion. Wear neoprene gloves during operation.
Chemical properties
Can be involved in REDOX reaction
S + 2KNO3+ 3C → K2S + N2↑ + 3CO2
Offer oxidizing performance in Acidic environment
6FeSO4+ 2KNO3+ 4H2SO4 → K2SO4+ 3Fe2(SO4)3+ 2NO↑ + 4H2O
Heated and decomposition and generate oxygen
