Lanolin Alcohol Standard is the extracted, unsaponifiable fraction of wool grease. It is a mixture of alcohols with a mean molecular weight of approximately 370 and contains a comprehensive range of sterols. These are made up of cholesterol, lanosterol, agnosterol and their dihydro derivatives plus straight and branched chain aliphatic alcohols. The wax is hard and solid in nature and finds many uses in water in oil preparations such as night creams, hair creams etc. Also used as an emollient in wash off ranges of products as well as being added to lanolin based creams to boost water absorption properties. |
